EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION FOR WOMEN
It was decided at the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, 1995 that “Without the active participation of women and the incorporation of women's perspective at all levels of decision-making, the goals of equality, development and peace cannot be achieved.” But post Beijing we are still waiting for an EOC for women in India. Stree Shakti – The Parallel Force has been lobbying since 2001 for an Equal Opportunity Commission to be established in India with an objective to provide Equal opportunities for women of India.

The recent Sacchar Report unfortunately it addresses to the “policies to deal with the deprivations of Muslims and which would sharply focus on inclusive development and mainstreaming of the community. “The panel is recommending an Equal opportunity Commission for the Minority community only, which ignores the demand of other Indian women. This issue needs to be seriously addressed. |

Equal Opportunity Commission has been working for woman all over the world. Stree Shakti – The Parallel Force demands that Equal Opportunity Commission should be set up for addressing the need of women in India. |

The National Commission of Woman is overburdened with several women issues and the cause of domestic violence, sexual harassment at work place; while the 33% Women reservation bill seems to be a distant cry. This demand of ours for an Equal Opportunity Commission for all women is justified and should be implemented. |

:::: 100 Women’s Forum ::::
We seek your support to create a networking forum - 'A 100 Women's Forum'. The proposed forum will have representatives from various sectors. All these women will be achievers in their own fields and would work together as a think tank to influence the policy makers for providing more space to women in India.
The objective of the forum would be to emerge as voice of women in India and lobby to bring the much needed change. Please find enclosed the first draft of the concept note.
We envisage it as a multi-organisation project. We invite you for an interactive meeting on 17 July at 5 P.M. at the private dinning room on the first floor at main IIC Maxmuller Margh New Delhi. Your presence and contributions in the consultation will help us in making it a reality.
A line in confirmation will be appreciated.
Please send your confirmation to Nitima Khanduja.
:::: SAARC Peace Initiative ::::
We strongly feel that the SAARC nations need to further the peace initiative and hence a meet is planned in Pakistan end of 2008. We seek your support for SAARC Peace Initiative. This Initiative would create understanding and encourage women’s groups to work towards peace. We hope to identify women leaders who will mobilise people’s participation to further the cause. Inspired by the stories shared by women delegates from 40 countries at the Jaipur Conference on "Making Way for the Feminine: for the Benefit of the World Community", organized by the global peace initiative of women, Times Foundation, Stree Shakti the parallel force and others, it was realised that problems faced by women all over the world which were discussed were similar albeit with different facades. Hence through this SAARC Peace Initiative, women of the SAARC nations will ensure that a peace zone for the co existence of man and women.

Women in India are deprived of the services of a mouthpiece or
pressure group. Many organizations are working for their
empowerment. Yet the need is for a parallel force that will:
-
Voice their hopes and fears
- Call
to answer organizations and government servants who fail
them
-
Provide a platform where women and those working with and
for them can meet to exchange expertise, experience, data
and assistance, and
-
Generally serve their needs, protect their rights and
project their cause at a national and international level.
We wish to fill the gap
